Twisted Tree Ground Stump Review
Twisted Tree
Twisted Tree
I first heard about Twisted Tree while hunting for Imperial Stouts in England. They’re a small, family‑run microbrewery in Oxfordshire, and since they only open once a month — and we weren’t around for that — I picked up a bottle from a nearby farm shop they recommended.
Yes, copy+pasta intro from Dark Rootgasm… you can read that review here: Dark Rootgasm.
I bought Ground Stump at the same time as Dark Rootgasm back in June, and after that disappointment, I wasn’t exactly rushing to open this one.
Luckily, it wasn’t as bad — especially considering it sells for almost half the price of Dark Rootgasm. I paid around £4 at the farm shop (currently listed online at 6 × £23).
The body is decent, neither overly carbonated nor flat. It’s very bitter and extremely coffee‑forward. At least this one aligns with the brewery’s own description — it really is a straight coffee stout.
Not terrible, but not something I’d chase. I love coffee and drink it constantly, but I’m not interested in beers that lean so heavily into coffee and offer little else. As an example, I’d much rather have something like Dragon’s Milk Coffee Chocolate (Review).
